Health & Safety Statement

The over-riding policy of the Company as to Health & Safety is to ensure that no-one engaged in the Company’s business is exposed to any risk to his or her health and safety.

In furtherance of that general statement of policy, the following specific matters will be observed:


Working Areas

  1. Every endeavour will be made to ensure that the working areas, toilets, rest rooms, stairs and passages will be kept clean. The floors will be cleaned on a regular basis; windows which are capable of being opened will be made safe for opening, closing and cleaning; steps will be taken to ensure the safety of pedestrians and vehicles in areas where vehicles are permitted; measures will be taken to prevent falls from heights and falling objects.
  2. Every employee will be given no less than 400 cubic feet of space in which to work and every effort will be made to prevent over-crowding.
  3. Adequate ventilation will be provided for all working areas. A no-smoking policy will be followed in all areas.
  4. The working areas will, subject to unforeseeable emergencies or exceptional weather conditions, be maintained at a reasonable temperature.
  5. Outdoor workstations will, so far as practicable, be given adequate weather protection.
  6. Provision will be made for rest areas.
  7. The whole of the premises will, subject to electrical breakdowns, be kept adequately light.
  8. An adequate number of properly designed seats will be provided for those employees whose work is capable of being performed whilst sitting.
  9. Regularly maintained and equipped first aid boxes will be kept at appropriate places.

Fire Safety

  1. The premises will be maintained in a safe condition regarding both structure and fire safety. All requirements to enable a current fire certificate to be maintained will be observed.
  2. All fire doors will be clearly indicated, maintained and kept unobstructed and the fire alarm will be regularly maintained and tested.
  3. All fire resistant doors will be kept closed.
  4. Fire drills will be held at regular intervals.

Arrangements for Implementing the Policy

It is the duty of every employee to take reasonable care for the health and safety of him or herself and of other persons who may be affected by his or her actions or omissions. It will be a fundamental term of every contract of employment that employees must obey health and safety instructions in force. A breach of those terms will be considered a breach of the terms of employment.

The Company will take the following action:

  1. Selected personnel will be trained as first aiders.
  2. Selected personnel will be given instruction in fire precautions and the action to be taken in the case of fire.
  3. Records will be kept as required by legislation.
  4. Selected personnel will be instructed to ensure that the policy set out in this statement is carried out.
  5. Fire fighting equipment will be provided at appropriate locations and will be regularly tested and where appropriate, replaced or serviced.
  6. All highly flammable material will be kept to a minimum, consistent with the proper and efficient running of the business and will, as far as is practicable, be kept stored away from working areas. No flammable materials will be kept stored near to any heating equipment.
  7. All electrical equipment will be properly maintained in a safe condition and will, where possible, be disconnected from the mains supply when not in use and will be equipped with an appropriate fuse.

Machinery

  1. All machinery will be provided with proper protective guards.
  2. All machinery will be regularly serviced and parts found to be worn or unsafe will be replaced.
  3. The working area around all machinery will be kept clear and the floors kept free from grease.
  4. For employees who are required to work with display screens and Visual Display Units (VDUs) a proper working environment will be provided and the employees will be permitted breaks or changes of activity. Information and training in the use of the equipment will be given and, where required, special spectacles will be provided and anti-glare filters will be fitted to VDUs.

Personnel

  1. Adequate provision will be made for the supply of wholesome drinking water.
  2. Suitable washing facilities including the provision of hot and cold water, soap, towels or other proper facilities for drying hands and face will be provided.
  3. Suitable WC facilities will be provided with separate provision for male and female users. The cubicles will be provided with proper screens and locks to ensure privacy and will be kept clean and provided with toilet paper.
  4. Protective clothing and personal protective equipment will be provided where necessary, together with storage facilities for that clothing and equipment. Training in the use of personal protective clothing and equipment will always be given.
